Assurant Announces Donation for Midwest Tornado Relief

$50,000 Contribution to American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund

ATLANTA, Nov. 21, 2013—The Assurant Foundation and Assurant Specialty Property today announced a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross, to help victims of Sunday’s tornadoes in the Midwest.

The contribution from the Assurant Foundation, the charitable arm of specialty insurance provider Assurant, Inc., will go to the Red Cross’ disaster relief fund. The organization is providing shelter and other assistance for storm victims in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.

“Our claims teams are working to help customers whose homes were damaged or destroyed by these storms,” said Gene Mergelmeyer , president and CEO of Assurant Specialty Property. “We’re proud to support the American Red Cross in assisting these communities as they look to rebuild.”

For more than three decades, the Assurant Foundation has provided financial assistance to charitable organizations assisting with disaster recovery. In recent years, through support of the American Red Cross, contributions have helped those affected by natural disasters including Superstorm Sandy, victims of earthquakes and tsunamis in Haiti, Chile, Japan and Indian Ocean, as well as communities hit by extreme storms and tornadoes throughout the U.S.
